Sustainable development 2026
As can be seen from the national energy and climate policy plan of Hungary and other European countries, four necessary but not sufficient conditions must be met in the energy sector to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050:
- the implementation of energy efficiency investments in the transformation and final energy consumption sectors;
- the spread of carbon capture, utilization, and storage technology;
- the provision of low and medium heat demand, as well as transportation demand primarily with electricity (electrification);
- the application of other conversion technologies in the case of difficult-to-decarbonize, high-heat final energy consumption (such as hydrogen, ammonia).
The use of energy storage technologies can contribute to the realization of the last two conditions.
